#5 Target Marketing

#5  Research how targeting specific economic, social, or cultural groups can lead to a competitive advantage (e.g. calling attention to a brand's social awareness efforts may increase sales of a specific product for those consumers who enjoy gourmet ice cream and who also have a preference for environmentally conscious products).  Identify product marketing examples that narrowly segment their target audience, citing specific textual evidence from investigation to analyze producers' purpose in developing specific marketing campaigns.


Market Segmentation

We have been talking about breaking down consumer groups into categories that can identify similar interests or characteristics.

One company that we talked about is Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.  They not only make ice cream but are known for the causes they support. 

Research

  1. With a partner find other product marketing examples that narrowly segment their target audience.
  2. Cite "textual" evidence from investigation to determine the purpose for developing specific marketing campaigns.  (look for marketing campaigns that target a narrow market and explain why from texts online.  (Cite source)
  3. Create a Google Slides presentation.  Include a photo or video as well as citing the source.  In your oral presentation, explain the psychology of the narrow target.
